UEI Announces New Board Chairman

The Urban Enrichment Institute has announced that Tolu Opeloye, President, and CEO of Amazon Health Services, will be the new Chairman of the Board of Directors effective January 2023.   

Tolu Opeloye Sr. is a 2021 Forbes NEXT 1000 Honoree; 2019 Houston Business Journal 40 under 40 honoree and was awarded the Mack H. Hannah Upstart Award through the Greater Houston Black Chamber in 2019.  

Tolu is committed to empowering young men to become responsible and productive members of their families and communities. He has served as a member of Board Directors for 4 years, where he last served as the UEI Vice Chair & Marketing/Public Relations Committee Chair.   

Tolu recently completed the Houston Black Leadership Institute Program with Class 7 through the Greater Houston Black Chamber and is currently in Class 41 within Leadership Houston, Inc. He is also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.  

“I feel very privileged to take on this role at such an exciting time for our organization- the needs of UEI’s young men, staff and the 5th Ward community are changing rapidly.  UEI is willfully dealing with these changes in a thoughtful and innovative ways which will benefit all UEI stakeholders for years to come,” said Opeloye.  

The Urban Enrichment Institute wants to congratulate John DeBerry, Vice President, Private Banking, Frost Bank as the new Vice Chair.   

The UEI selection committee also welcomes the following new board members.
